Quail Lodge
Lot No: 613•
1,974 Kilometers from new
1994 Jaguar Coupé XJ220
Chassis no. SAJJEAEXBAX220633
This magnificent looking and supremely well specified Jaguar XJ220 Coupe is offered here in pristine condition and at a level offering a considerable saving over the list price at launch.
XJ220 chassis number '633' is one of very few of these cars that are in the U.S.A. and has been DOT/EPA certified and has been approved under 'Show and Display' laws. It was purchased by Larry Rhoades in 2005 having fallen in love with the 1,450 kilometer car at Bonhams 2005 Quail Lodge auction. He subsequently took the car to Florida, enjoying it, but using it sporadically allowing the mileage to rise to a total of less than 2000 kilometers.
Of the limited color options for these cars, this turquoise green metallic color, named Silverstone Green, probably is the best statement of a period color for its age, and arguably reflects the lines and details of the bodywork best, on this car it is complemented with a sand leather interior.
As one would expect, the car remains in exceptionally clean order and is complete with its manuals.
Estimate: $160,000 - 200,000

This 1994 Jaguar XJ220 is one of approximately 280 examples built during two years of production and was manufactured on February 8, 1994, in left-hand-drive configuration. The car was delivered new in the UK to Essex dealership Grange Jaguar in 1997 before being imported to the US on a “show or display” exemption. After spending five years with a Florida collector, it was moved to Ontario, Canada, in 2010 before being temporarily displayed in a Hong Kong collection and then returning to Canada, where it was acquired by the seller in 2014. Finished in Silverstone Green over tan leather, the car is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 mated to a five-speed manual transaxle with a limited-slip differential. Additional features include a bonded aluminum chassis wrapped in aluminum bodywork, a glass roof, AP Racing brakes, and staggered-diameter Speedline wheels. Work within the last two years has included timing belt replacement, a fuel cell service, fluid changes, and the installation of a new clutch, rear main seal, turbo line O-rings, spark plugs, a battery, and tires. This XJ220 shows 3k kilometers (~1,800 miles) and is now offered in Alberta, Canada, with recent service invoices, a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, a date-of-manufacture statement from Jaguar, previous ownership transfer paperwork, a tool kit, a first-aid kit, owner’s manuals, a clean Carfax report, and previous Alberta registration in the seller’s name.
Design features include a front air dam, a trunk-mounted rear spoiler, underbody venturi tunnels that extend into a rear diffuser, intake scoops aft of the doors, retractable headlight covers, a glass roof, and louvers at the base of the windshield and rear window to stabilize airflow. This example’s aluminum bodywork is finished in Silverstone Green, and touchups were carried out on the underside of the front air dam and rear diffuser in early 2021.
Speedline Corse-designed alloy wheels measure 17” up front and 18” at rear and are secured by center-lock nuts. Bridgestone Potenza R007 tires were sourced from Don Law in the UK in 2018 and were mounted the following year. AP Racing-designed brakes comprise ventilated and cross-drilled discs measuring 13” in diameter up front and 11.8” out back that are acted upon all around by four-piston aluminum calipers. The calipers were serviced in 2019 with new seals, bleed nipples, and mounting hardware, and a brake fluid flush was performed.
The cabin is trimmed in Sand leather over manually adjustable bolstered sport seats as well as the console, door panels, and roof pillars. Color-matched carpeting covers the floors, while black Alcantara accents the kick panels and doors. Amenities include power steering, electrically adjustable heated side mirrors, air conditioning, power windows, and an Alpine cassette player and CD changer.
The four-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel sits ahead of a 360-km/h speedometer, a tachometer with a 7k-rpm redline, and gauges monitoring oil pressure and temperature, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The instrument binnacle extends over the adjacent door panel, where a clock, an ammeter, and gauges showing boost pressure and transaxle temperature are housed. The seller notes that the boost gauge does not function, and that one dash bulb does not illuminate. The six-digit odometer shows just over 3k kilometers (~1,800 miles), approximately 700 of which were added by the seller.
The 3.5-liter JV6 V6 was developed by Jaguar and TWR based on the Austin Rover V64V used in the MG Metro 6R4 Group B rally car. Shared by Jaguar’s XJR-10 and XJR-11 racing cars, the JV6 features twin Garrett turbochargers with corresponding air-to-air intercoolers, an aluminum block and cylinder heads, dual overhead camshafts on each bank, four valves per cylinder, dry-sump lubrication, multipoint fuel injection with dual injectors, and Zytek electronic engine management. Factory-rated output was 542 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque. Service performed in September 2019 by Lamborghini Calgary utilizing parts sourced from Don Law in the UK included replacement of the timing belts, rear main seal, spark plugs, air filters, the battery, the fuel cell, all four fuel pumps, and fuel lines. New turbo oil feed and return line O-rings were installed in 2021 along with a new lower sump pan gasket.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle equipped with a limited-slip differential. A new clutch, pilot bearing, throwout bearing, and clutch slave cylinder were installed in 2019, with the flywheel resurfaced at that time. A new rear underbody tray was installed in 2020.
The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate lists the original colors and component numbers as well as dispatch from Project XJ220 Limited in March 1994 and original delivery to Grange Jaguar in Brentwood, Essex, in 1997. A 2006 letter from Jaguar confirms that the car was manufactured in 1994 despite not being sold until 1997. Also documents from previous ownership transfers under the “show or display” exemption, as well as a sheet describing operating procedures for the car are included.
